History: Around 1936, the village acquires the status of township, including jurisdiction Cabuyaro by Ordinance No: 21, 1961, amounts to Cumaral Inspectorate of Constabulary and the year of 1990 by Ordinance No: 005 October 16/90, is created as a municipality, its first mayor, Mr. JAIME IBANEZ, through departmental decree No: 11/1991 January 0024. Before the resignation of this, as his replacement is appointed by decree Gustavo Aguirre Ortiz No: 31/1991 January 0051. The first mayor elected by popular vote was Dr. Hernando Sierra Duarte, for the constitutional period from 1992 to 1994.
